Our team completed this unique and challenging solar installation for a homeowner committed to long-term sustainability. The project involved a 7.14kWp system with 17 high-efficiency solar panels, designed to generate an impressive 3104 kWh of clean energy annually. However, the complexity of the roof presented a challenge that required a tailored approach.
Due to the multi-faceted nature of the roof, we had to distribute the solar panels across five different elevations. A conventional string inverter system wouldn’t have been viable in this scenario, as shading and differing panel orientations would have significantly reduced efficiency. To overcome this, we utilised SolarEdge technology, which optimises the performance of each panel individually. This solution ensured that even with varying roof angles and potential shading, the system would generate sufficient power to make the investment worthwhile.
The long term benefits
Understanding the long-term benefits, the homeowner saw the financial benefit behind the installation. With projected savings of over £20,000 over the next 20 years, the return on investment was compelling. To further enhance energy savings and self-sufficiency, we also installed a Tesla Powerwall. This intelligent battery storage system allows the homeowner to store excess solar energy for use when needed and to take advantage of lower-cost electricity tariffs overnight, further reducing energy bills.
The results
In addition to maximising efficiency and due to the area having a lot of tree coverage, we also took proactive measures to protect the system by installing bird exclusion. This prevents nesting and ensures the longevity of the panels, minimising maintenance needs and preserving the system’s performance over time.
This project exemplifies how – with the right technology and expertise – even complex installations can yield excellent results. The homeowner now enjoys a future-proofed energy system that not only reduces reliance on the grid but also delivers significant financial savings over the long term.
